Reasons a Lice Prescription might not work

Reasons a Lice Prescription might not work:

  1. Often times the Dr. prescribes a prescription with the same chemicals-Permethrin-as the OTC Rid and Nix brands (which no longer kill lice-google “super lice” for more info).
  2. User error. You must follow the application instructions very carefully and ensure that you get every bit of hair and scalp coated in the prescription /chemical.
  3. If your doctor prescribes Lindane, you should research this chemical! It’s been banned in some states as it has been deemed carcinogenic.YUCK.Who wants that on their child’s head?
  4. You need a lice professional to examine all the heads in your household to determine who has lice and who does not. Most pediatricians and their nurses mean well, but without lice goggles and nit combs, they miss a lot of the lice cases OR don’t examine everyone in your house. So you treat the one kiddo with the obvious case of lice and miss the other two people in your house who have a less obvious case. And so the cycle begins again.
