Why Summer means more LICE!
Hi folks-wanted to let you know that we are entering the busy season for lice. Most people think Fall/back to school is when we see a spike, but the summers are always the busiest. This is simply because kids have more opportunities to touch heads with other kiddos-think sleep overs, summer camp, babysitting, etc. What can you do to help lower the odds of your kiddo contracting lice this summer? It’s simple-just don’t let their hair touch another child’s hair. Ok, well maybe NOT so simple. Here are the easiest way-for girls have them wear their hair in braids when they go to a sleep over. That way, if they sleep near someone who has it, their hair is not loose and will not touch the person with lice. If your teen is a nanny, they should wear their hair up in a braid or bun every day, this drastically reduces the likelihood of contracting lice.
There are numerous sprays and concoctions that **claim to repel lice. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can do that, short of dipping your child’s head in coconut oil. The scent of tea tree oil (which is often touted as repelling lice) simply evaporates too quickly to repel anything for more than 30-60 minutes. So, skip the sprays and embrace the braids!
Have a fantastic summer,
